Marvel Snap: like at the casino, you have to know how to say stop to preserve your cubes!


Marvel Snap is a hyper original and daring TCG. Its gameplay is very addictive and dynamic, and we often find ourselves restarting games, again and again, more than necessary. After careful consideration, it occurred to me that the “Snap!” was not there for nothing in this character taking. Indeed, it brings something really innovative for a very strategic TCG: the notion of stake, together with that of bet.

On the ladder, we literally bet cubes with our opponents. If I’m sure of myself, I raise the bet. If my opponent is also confident, he will follow. If on the contrary I think that the game smells of fir, I “go to bed” (to use the poker lexicon). Of course, these bets only have your MMR at stake, and not your savings (and fortunately). Nevertheless, they contribute greatly to making the game hectic as desired. For better and for worse.

The ranked leaves or doubles

I like the files classified on the video game. League of Legends, Hearthstone, or even Clash Royale… Launching a ranked game always means taking the risk of losing places… or gaining them! The competitor therefore continually puts his ranking at stake. And this is what creates this exaltation that we do not find in matches without stakes.

Marvel Snap still sublimates its feeling. Because there are in the game of SecondDinner several types of victories: those with one cube, those with two cubes, those with four cubes, and the most satisfying, with eight cubes. The catch is that there is also the negative equivalent of this list. And tearing defeats that will tax you eight cubes. Ugh.

“Come on, I’m going to redo…”

In Marvel Snap, you and your ego are at the heart of the bets. And that’s why Marvel Snap’s Ranked system is so specific. More than in any other game, your ego will characterize your rise on the ladder. Also, it happened to me on several occasions to lose mountains of cubes in a few games, blinded by the certainty that I was better than my opponents.

The “I don’t stop on a defeat” syndrome is devastating on Marvel Snap, and I sometimes had a hard time stopping the bleeding of MMR, caught in the spiral of nervousness and wounded ego.

If I can give myself a piece of advice (which applies in any competitive service game but ESPECIALLY on Marvel Snap), it is to know how to take breaks when you start to chain errors and missplays. When you start squandering your cubes on the chain, take a break, and take a step back. A change of deck and/or a questioning are often the keys to restarting a more fruitful ranked session!
