Marvel Studios

In 2008, Disney studios and producer Kevin Feige embarked on a crazy and unprecedented bet in the history of cinema: the creation of a connected universe around Marvel superheroes, with films and series integrating into the same overall story deployed between cinema and the Disney+ platform.

Fifteen years later, the Marvel Cinematic Universe project, or MCU for short, has established itself as the largest franchise in the history of cinema: 33 films and around ten feature films in development, 10 series already released and a dozen others in the works, nearly $30 billion in worldwide box office revenue, and characters who now reign supreme in the pantheon of pop culture.

But is this success inevitable, to paraphrase Thanos? For several months, The Empire has been vacillating between box office failures, sluggish streaming audiences, behind-the-scenes tensions and above all an increasingly obvious Marvel Fatigue among spectators. So what are the prospects for the MCU, now faced with a major challenge: regaining the success of its first three phases, those of the Infinity Stones, while phases 4 and 5 struggle to convince and establish the cycle of the multiverse?

We talk about it in this podcast with a deliberately catastrophic title, of course, but which puts its finger on this pivotal moment, this very turning point, which the studio must face: “Marvel, is this already the beginning of the end?”. To shed some light on this subject, we brought together our own Avengers, our editorial specialists on the superheroic question in general and Marvel in particular. AlloCiné… gathering!
