The superhero Silk is not going to spin her web at Amazon. The e-commerce giant has decided not to continue the series Silk: Spider Society produced by Sony Pictures Television. The producers are looking for a new home for it.
No Spider-Woman at Amazon
Just a few days after announcing that Nicolas Cage would play Spider-Man Noir in a show that will be available in France on Prime Video, Amazon is putting the brakes on its plans for series from Sony’s Spider-verse.
Silk: Spider Society has been in development since 2022 under the leadership of the ex-showrunner of The Walking Dead, Angela Kang. It was to be the first series in a list of several programs dedicated to Marvel characters for which Sony holds the rights.
This will ultimately not be the case, or at least not at Amazon. The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Sony TV hopes to find another broadcaster for Silk: Spider Societywhich tells the story of Cindy Moon, a young Korean-American woman bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker going in search of her missing family.
Writing for the series was to resume last January, after being put on hold during the 2023 writers’ strike. This resumption ultimately did not take place because Amazon took advantage of the strike to assess the progress already made on Silk: Spider Society. The studio was obviously not convinced and therefore decided to abandon the project.
The plan to make several series from Sony’s Marvel universe, connected to each other, is still alive. However, at present, only Spider-Man Black was made official.
On the cinema side, Sony is preparing to release two new Marvel films as part of its Spider-verse: Venom: The Last Dancethird opus of the adventures of the anti-hero played by Tom Hardy, and Kraven the Hunter, worn by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The first will arrive in theaters on October 25 while the second should be released in theaters on December 11.
