Sebastian Stan, interpreter of the Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently spoke about the filming of the first “Captain America”, and the disappearance of his character which he thought was final.
Today on the poster of the Pam & Tommy series on Disney +, Sebastian Stan is particularly famous for his character of Bucky Barnes, alias the Winter Soldier, which he had the opportunity to embody in 6 films and a Marvel Cinematic Universe series.
However, as he recently told the microphone of Vanity Fair, during his first appearance in the MCU, when he gave the reply to Chris Evans in Captain America: First Avenger in 2011, he was convinced that his career within the Marvel universe would stop there. And for good reason: his character was killed in a terrible train accident at the end of the film.
“I had absolutely no idea that I was going to play this role for 10 years”says Sebastian Stan. “I remember applying for the role of Steve Rogers and not getting it. And then I was told about this other role and where it might go. But it didn’t seem to imply the slightest commitment.”
As he reveals, the actor had therefore initially passed trials for the role of Captain America, finally obtained by Chris Evans. During the filming, his one and only hope of one day setting foot in the MCU was that Bucky was supposed to lose an arm in the film, during the accident:

“I knew that at the end of the story, I was going to fall off this train, and then I was going to be given this green sleeve [ndlr : afin de pouvoir enlever son bras numériquement par la suite]. It was the only indication in my possession that could lead me to believe in a potential return.says Sebastian Stan.
“But nobody told me anything. Then, the day we shot the scene, they said to me, ‘We’re going to drop the green sleeve.’ And then I said to myself, ‘That’s it. I’m going to die on this train. I’m not coming back.” But they just didn’t know what arm they wanted to use, or something like that.”
This is how 3 years later, Sebastian Stan was indeed back on the front of the stage in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a new feature film in which he was the main antagonist.
Today present in 6 feature films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and even on the poster of a series of which he shares the poster with Anthony Mackie (the Falcon), the actor has even found himself in the cast of feature films that he had absolutely not anticipated. This is how in 2015, on the set of Civil War, he learned in a completely improbable way that he would participate in a scene of Black Panther.
