Marvel: what if this Avenger was a Skrull in the Secret Invasion series?

Many fans of the Marvel universe think that this emblematic character of the franchise present in the series “Secret Invasion” is actually a Skrull!

Please note, the following comes back to the plot of the first three episodes of the Secret Invasion series, available on Disney+. If you have not seen them, and do not want to know anything about their content, then you are strongly recommended to stop reading this article now.

Hide this Skrull I can’t see! The Secret Invasion series, a new production from Marvel Studios, immerses fans of the superhero franchise in a spy plot, as Nick Fury finds himself confronted by a Skrull terrorist network, led by the emblematic leader Gravik (Kingsley Ben -Adir).

New faces join the MCU on this occasion, including Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman, while actors who have already appeared in the franchise are signing their return, such as Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn (Talos), or even Don Cheadle. The interpreter of Colonel James Rhodes finds himself at the heart of a credible fan theory.

For many Internet users, the Rhodes who appeared in the Secret Invasion series is not the Avenger as we know him, but a Skrull look-alike. Remember that these extraterrestrials have the ability to change their appearance, a power that allowed them to easily blend into the mass of humanity.

“Everyone Calls Me Fury”

In the second episode of Secret Invasion, many fans were amazed that Colonel Rhodes unflinchingly handed Nick Fury over to Russian authorities. Admittedly, the relationship between the Avengers and the former director of SHIELD is not in good shape, but this extreme decision does not seem in accordance with the personality of the character.

Another point that intrigued Internet users: the fact that Rhodes calls Nick Fury by his first name. However, as Fury himself recalls in episode 3, “no one calls him Nick”. By doing so, did Rhodes unwittingly spill the beans on his true nature?

Finally, if episode 3 broadcast this week on Disney + did not confirm this theory, the voice heard on the phone at the very end of the episode by Priscilla Fury, Nick’s wife, seems to be that of Rhodes.

Everything therefore suggests that after Everett Ross, another emblematic character of the MCU could turn out to be a Skrull copy…

Episodes of the Marvel Secret Invasion series are available every Wednesday on Disney+.
