“When I told people that I had landed the role of Ant-Man, they would ask me what this character did. So I would say that he could shrink to the size of an ant, but he retained his strength and that he could also control the ants and talk to them. While people laughed a lot when they learned what Ant-Man’s powers were, they also didn’t take the fact that Paul Rudd slipped into the character’s costume very seriously. A challenge for the actor. “I’m not the first guy people would think of when it comes to playing a big superhero”he declared. “I wanted to try and create a character, a superhero, who was a bit of an ordinary person. The superhero world felt overwhelming, and I wondered what I could do to make Ant-Man identifiable to the public eye. “
Beyond the inherent pressure of playing a Marvel superhero, Paul Rudd also wanted to satisfy comic-book fans. “These characters are important to so many people”concludes the American actor. “What you want is to treat these people with respect and do the character a favor.”
After Ant-Man, Paul Rudd returned to the mini superhero in 2018 for Ant-Man and the Wasp. A third adventure, dubbed Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, will hit theaters on February 15, 2023.
