Marvel’s Iron Man VR TEST: what is the Meta Quest 2 version of this old PSVR exclusive worth?

embody Tony Stark is, without a doubt, a childhood dream that many of us must have had. Iron Man VR is therefore the opportunity to slip into his skin and especially his armor. Released exclusively on PSVRit now arrives on Meta Quest 2 and it’s still the studio camouflage who is in charge. The logo Oculus Studios at the launch of the game displays the color and this game will remain an exclusive Meta on the side of hybrid helmets. Note that if users of PICO 4 therefore cannot benefit from it, those of the Quest 1 either, but unfortunately for them, it becomes the norm.

The port of Marvel’s Iron Man VR on Meta Quest 2 is a success.

Marvel's Iron Man VR 1 06 head 2Without divulging the story, Marvel’s Iron Man takes place when Tony Stark decides to cease the manufacture of weapons of war and where Pepper Potts is appointed as President of Stark Industries. It was then that an entity called Ghost comes to hack and take control of the drones of stark to harm him, or even more. In this action and adventure game, we will therefore switch between scripted phases where Tony Stark tells the story and phases of combat within his increasingly complex armor as the story progresses. Note, the version Quest 2 no longer imposes the unbearable loading times that killed the immersion in the original version on PSVR.

Side gameplay, which you can discover in our video here, it is with the help of the thrusters of our hands that we fly. It is therefore by triggering them and directing them that we move very naturally. If it is possible to play seated while turning using a joystick, it is standing while turning on oneself that the impressions are more realistic, especially with the total absence of wire which bothered on the original version (PSVR). Flying becomes natural and immersive, even if it sometimes leads to getting out of the play space caught in the heat of the moment, as we move without noticing it. If you’ve ever played the original version, you’ll definitely feel much freer within your armor and if you have the version Meta Quest 2do not try the other, you will be disappointed. For fights, the challenge increases a little, because even if it is possible to hover to shoot with both hands, you often have to steer with one and shoot with the other, it’s a blow to take. There are several types of armament and even lightning attacks with the fists, but we won’t tell you too much, to leave you the pleasure of discovery. Small point of detail, if you prefer, it is now possible to move freely, instead of using teleportation when stark is on the ground.

Graphically, Marvel’s Iron Man VR on Meta Quest 2 is well done. The transition from a version running on PS4 (PSVR) to one on Android (Quest 2) has been well managed and the whole thing does not suffer from the “unbearable graphics downgrade” syndrome that we have already seen many times. Everything is clean, the disappearance of dynamic lights is not even really noticeable and the fluidity is there, as we did not encounter any slowdown during our test sessions. On the sound side, everything is good in theIronthere is really nothing to say technically. However, true to form, stark speaks a lot and the dialogues (in French audio and text) sometimes fall a little flat with strokes of humor that deserved a little more style. The French dubbing is quite clean, but let’s be honest, we would have liked to hear the voice of Robert Downey Jr. so much (that of his dubbing actor in French, at least) that there is a little disappointment on this point.

Marvel's Iron Man VR Behind the Scenes

In conclusion, carrying Marvel’s Iron Man VR on Meta Quest 2 is a success. It brings the same content, to the comma, while magnifying the gaming experience thanks to the absence of wires, the disappearance of endless loading screens between two levels and the free movement mode when our hero is on the ground. Graphically, the game keeps its initial style without the adaptations necessary to switch from a version running on PS4 to one under Android being destructive., the fluidity is perfect and the lifespan is quite good (around 6/7 hours without doing the side missions). Admittedly, the replayability is not there on a daily basis, but putting on the armor ofIron Man from time to time remains enjoyable enough to come back for a few small fights here and there.

If ever the game appealed to you, it is available on the Meta Quest Store here at a price of €39.99. It only turns on Meta Quest 2 and, a priori, it will remain an exclusivity Meta (Oculus Studios) on hybrid headsets, so it won’t output on PICO 4, to be more clear. You can afford a helmet Meta Quest 2 on Amazon.
