What would life as a friendly neighborhood spider be without a good dose of daily trouble? If the two Spider-Men are at the top of their superheroic careers, Miles is struggling to complete his university admission file while Peter can no longer afford Aunt May’s house, which he does not want to sell either. Meanwhile, MJ must contend with the return of Jonah J. Jameson as head of the Daily Bugle. And as if all that weren’t complicated enough, Harry Osborn, Peter’s long-lost best friend, suddenly reappears in New York…and, if the trailer’s subtle staging is to be believed, is the Venom of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Without forgetting the Lizard on the run and Kraven who arrives in the big apple for his mysterious “hunt”.
“Are we going to make a web?”
But the star will obviously remain Venom. Jon Paquette, the project’s narrative director, shared his take on the character on the PlayStation Blog: “When we decided to write our story around Venom, we knew the general tone would evolve. The best stories of the symbiotes are a great allegory: we all have a part of darkness – what if we let it take over? […] Our heroes will have to face darkness in all its forms. We wanted them to change, both externally and internally, and examine the impact of this evolution on those close to them. And when Venom takes over, they risk losing themselves and their loved ones forever.“As we saw in a previous trailer, Peter is indeed much more angry under the effect of the symbiote. Miles will also have to confront his demons in a rather literal way, since we discovered today that he will come face to face with Martin Li, antagonist of the first opus responsible for the death of his father. That’s a lot of reason to blow a hose.
To face the threat, our two superheroes will have new gadgets, but above all new powers. Peter will be able to borrow the strength of the symbiote and wield its half-liquid, half-solid tentacles, but also use mechanical spider legs, as in Avengers: Infinity War for example (yes, I know, it was first in the arc Civil War in comics). Miles Morales, he will manipulate a new kind of bio-electricity of which Insomniac did not wish to reveal the details. The overall objective: to multiply the field of possibilities and let us improvise in all situations. Our two heroes will also be able to spread their canvas wings to soar and cross the city at top speed, spinning through the new neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens. A great way to show off the superior power of the PS5 in a open-world ultra-fluid, but also to reduce our journey times.

Finally, spider buffs will be able to acquire a limited edition PS5 dedicated to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in an exclusive bundle. In addition to the standard edition game, this pack will therefore contain a black and red console where we can see the symbiote crawling towards the acronym of Spider-Man, but also a DualSense controller just as infected by Venom. Pre-ordering the bundle will grant you the same bonuses as if you pre-ordered the game alone, namely three skill points, a gadget (the Web Grabber) and two outfits (Arachknight and Shadow Spider). These contents can be unlocked in game if you do not opt for pre-order.
