Mary of Denmark: how Frederik X manages his wife’s great popularity

On January 14, Prince Frederik became King of Denmark. Joachim’s older brother thus succeeded his mother, Queen Margrethe II, who had announced that she was going abdicate after fifty-two years of reign during his New Year’s greetings. Three days later, the magazine Hello! returned, in a new episode of his royal podcast, to this radical change within Danish royalty. The editor-in-chief ofITV News, Chris Ship, but also the journalist of DPG Media, Wim Dehandschutter, as well as Joe Little, the editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazinehave in particular mentioned the place of the new queen, Mary.

For co-host, Andrea Caamano, “it’s clear that Mary is more popular” as her husband, King Frederik. “The cheers for her as she came out onto the balcony [lors de la passation de pouvoir, qui a notamment eu lieu au palais Christiansborg, NDLR] were absolutely intense”, she said, referring to the numerous loud applause that was heard as soon as the Queen arrived in front of the crowd. It is indeed no secret that the mother of Christian, Isabella, Vincent and Josephine is very appreciated by the population of Denmark. According to Chris Ship, King Frederik’s wife “really has a star or royal side” and this will be more the case “in the years to come, when she wears all the really big, sparkly jewelry that she hasn’t been able to wear until now.” The journalist also compared the relationship she shares with the new sovereign with that that Prince Charles had with Princess Diana, during their marriage.

A couple at the heart of a love triangle?

The mother of princes Harry and William was indeed one of the most popular members of the English royal family, making the front pages of magazines and rallying the entire population to her cause during her divorce, having been caused by her husband’s love for Camilla Parker-Bowles. Either way, like the former British royal couple, another woman has caused a lot of discussion. The story of Queen Mary of Denmark and King Frederik recently did the subject of adultery rumors. The eldest son of Margrethe II had in fact been the subject of an article published by Vanitatis according to which he would have an extramarital relationship with a certain Genoveva Casanova. On the balcony of Christiansborg Palace on January 14, however, the couple kissed, brushing aside the recent rumors concerning them.
