Surprisingly, fans have to say goodbye: Mary Wilson, singer and founding member of the group The Supremes, died at the age of 76.

Singer Mary Wilson has been in the limelight throughout her life. As a co-founder and member of the soul group The Supremes, she celebrated great success, especially in the 1960s. She has now passed away at the age of 76. Her long-time press spokesman Jay Schwartz confirmed this to several US media. The artist's death came suddenly. She died on Monday evening (February 8th) in her home in Las Vegas, but nothing is known about the circumstances.

At the age of only 15, Wilson founded the successful soul group The Supremes with Diana Ross (67) and Florence Ballard (1943-1976), which initially made music under the name The Primettes. Today fans owe her hits like "You Can't Hurry Love" or "Stop! In the Name of Love". Wilson remained loyal to her until the band split up in 1977. She then devoted herself to her solo career and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 as a founding member of the Supremes.

New music should be released in March 2021

Despite getting older, Wilson was still highly motivated. Just two days before her sudden death, she posted a video on her YouTube channel talking about her latest plans. Not only did she announce a new book, but previously unpublished solo material should also have appeared shortly. Wilson said, "Hopefully some of this will come out on my birthday, March 6th."

Their dream of seeing the Supremes reunited remained unfulfilled. Time and again in the past, Wilson had confirmed that she was ready for a reunion. In the end, however, she no longer made any hope. In an interview with "The Hollywood Reporter" in mid-January of this year, the singer said: It "really depends on Diana (Ross)". But even then she strongly doubted "that she wanted to do that".
