Pierre Billon, the artistic director of the program Mask Singer, was the guest of Sud Radio this Tuesday, September 6. The opportunity for him to discuss the performance of the candidates.
The show Mask Singer has been making a comeback for a few weeks on the TF1 antenna. The purpose of this? They are public figures who hide under masks and perform songs in front of a jury in order to be discovered through their voices. The program was a hit and it was no surprise that it returned for a new season. Guest of the Sud Radio program this Tuesday, September 6, Pierre Billon, the artistic director, made some confidences. He notably mentioned the performance of the candidates when they perform on the stage against Kev Adams, Vitaa, Chantal Ladesou and Jeff Panacloc. “We are not in playback, everyone sings“, he first asserted. Faced with the surprise of the journalists, he then clarifies that, even under the costumes, the artists actually sing. “What you hear, when we record, are backups“, he explained before adding that masks can be heavy but also prevent artists from breathing. “Sometimes the voice can be twisted so we put the backup. If you don’t sing and stay static, you can’t move“, concluded Pierre Billon.
In the show Mask Singer: the sequel, viewers can take a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation of the artists, whether it’s the costume fittings or the recording of the songs they’re going to perform on stage. If some thought it was a playback, Pierre Billon assures that no, it’s live and that it can also harm the candidates. He notably mentioned the case of Marianne James, who was hiding under the baby’s costume. “You can listen and you realize that she really sings but it was complicated for her to do both voices“, first remembered Pierre Billon. The reason? “First she did the baby’s voice and then her real voice and even though it was fantastic for her, that’s what got him out quickly,” he asserted. Thereafter, he specifies having worked with her on other songs. “She should have started with these because she would have been dazzling“, concluded Pierre Billon.
