Massively lighter – BMW F 900 GS: New generation drastically improved

BMW brings the new generation of the Munich enduro medium and entry-level class. The series also get new names and are now called F 900 GS instead of F 850 GS (also Adventure) and F 850 instead of F 800. The F 900 loses a whopping 14 kg and will therefore gain a lot of agility.

What the three series have in common is the new two-cylinder engine with an increased displacement to 895 cm³ and a richer torque curve. It produces 10 hp more than its 853 cc predecessor, which means 105 hp for the F 900 GS/Adventure and 87 hp for the F 800 GS. Maximum torque 93 Nm or 91 Nm at 6750 rpm. The engine remains a load-bearing part in the steel bridge frame. All three have adjustable gear levers, LED lighting all around, a 6.5-inch display including connectivity, heated grips and more standard equipment overall. More enduro performance for the F 900 GSGS and GS Adventure will become clearer in the future. There are some improvements that only benefit the F 900 GS, but not the adventure version. Therefore, the GS Adventure is still a 246 kg heavy stunner (which is helped by the unchanged 23 liter tank), while the GS slims down by 14 kg and only weighs 219 kg. The diet consists, among other things, of a 4.5 kg lighter tank, which is now made of plastic instead of steel and holds half a liter less at 14.5 kg, a 2.4 kg lighter rear area and an Akrapovic exhaust that weighs 1.7 kg, and a lighter swingarm. In addition, the ergonomic triangle (handlebar – seat – footrests) has been optimized for off-road use. There is also a new, higher-positioned foot brake lever. A 12 mm holder that can accommodate an action cam or other devices is standard. For an additional charge, the off-road capabilities of the lightweight can be further increased: with the Enduro Pro package, which includes a fully adjustable, titanium nitride-coated USD fork, includes a fully adjustable central spring strut as well as handlebar risers and M Endurance chain. For the Adventure and F 800 GS, however, the Dynamic ESA electronic suspension is available as an optional extra. The new, fully adjustable USD fork is standard on the two F-900 models. Market launch in Austria in February 2024 at prices starting at 11,990 euros (BMW F 800 GS) 15,290 euros (BMW F 900 GS) or 16,400 euros (BMW F 900 GS Adventure).
