MasterChef: what is the difference between the version of France 2 and that of TF1?

From this Tuesday, August 23, France 2 kicks off its version of MasterChef, an amateur culinary competition that viewers discovered in the 2010s on TF1. What is different about this version compared to the one on the front page? Answer.

The best jam is made in old jars. The old programs have the coast. While TF1 will revive from its ashes the star AcademyFrance 2 tackles MasterChef. M6 will no longer have a monopoly on culinary competitions. The utility has decided to bet on a brand already well known to fans of the small screen. Since it was the heyday of TF1 in the early 2000s – before audiences eroded and the fifth and final season ended its run on NT1. From this Tuesday, August 23, Agathe Lecaron will therefore be at the helm of a brand new version of the competition between amateur cooks. If he wasn’t no need to copy-paste of the version of TF1, the host had all the same specified that the viewers will find the fundamentals of the program. This is particularly the case for one of the jurors. Yves Camdeborde has agreed to take on this role again. Except that this time, the chef is accompanied by Thierry Marx and Georgiana Viou, finalist of the first edition of MasterChef.

Besides the jury and the host, what does the version of France 2 bring that is different from that of the front page? Foodies will note a change in size from the first test of the show. Gone is the phase of pre-selection of candidates during which a hundred people competed on the chiseling of an onion for example in order to win their place in the competition. Thethe adventure begins with only 18 candidates – half of which will qualify for the second issue. To do this, they will have to seduce the jurors with their signature dish. France 2 has indeed wished refocus the show on cooking rather than on the show. “We are not in a show. Amateur cuisine is unpredictable and offers wildly daring things, without filters. The amateur is driven by his passion which creates amazing things“, rejoiced the producer Matthieu Bayle during the press conference.

These changes noted by Yves Camdeborde and Georgiana Viou

France 2 marked this version of its values. Viewers will therefore find tips for eating better, wasting less and having a lower impact. The competition has therefore set up several initiatives such as the creation of zero waste recipes or tests around themes related to the environment. Above all, the atmosphere is not the same. Candidates are not in the spirit of competition. Kindness comes first. “To make laugh. Make cry. Engage the candidates“, is no longer on the agenda, as Yves Camdeborde pointed out to us, who nevertheless specifies that he “need to put things in context : history and life were not the same.” “It was another channel, perhaps they asked for more tension and pushed more for competition or even bickering between the candidates. There, we especially did not ask them. It’s really good humor, joy, kindness and benevolence that reign“, explains the one who recently caused a sensation in Mask Singer.

Yves Camdeborde nevertheless specifies that this in no way prevents them from having required of candidates”rigor, organization and work discipline. “We know that if we work with joy and in a good spirit, we work better and we are much more efficient.“, he notes. So they did their best to “transcend the candidates in joy“. Another change pointed out by Georgiana Viou : the fact that at the time, when she was a candidate, “the chiefs had no right to speak to us“. Whereas in this version, contestants and jurors all ate together.”And during the tests, I don’t remember them coming to see us, except to ask what we were doing, unlike this MasterChef where Yves showed them how to lift the net of a turbo, for example.A transmission of their passion dear to these jurors.
