With the Mate 50 Pro, Huawei’s first top smartphone without a Leica camera is coming onto the German market. Nevertheless, the camera should continue to be the flagship of the model.

With the Mate 50 Pro, Huawei is now launching its first top smartphone without a Leica camera in Germany. Even without the help of the German photo experts, the cell phone should primarily score with its camera.
Ultra Aperture XMAGE replaces Leica
The phone’s camera system consists of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 64-megapixel periscope camera and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Huawei also calls this setup “Ultra Aperture XMAGE”.
Thanks to powerful image processing based on an engine that mimics the information processing of the human brain, the Mate 50 Pro should enable high-quality portrait shots, among other things. In addition, the camera supports a 200x digital zoom and a 10x adjustable physical aperture.
The phone runs with EMUI 13 from the factory
Away from the camera, the Huawei Mate50 Pro offers a 6.74-inch OLED display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 – albeit without a 5G modem. The RAM is 8 gigabytes and the internal memory is 256 gigabytes. The battery has a capacity of 4,700 mAh
EMUI 13 acts as the operating system for the first time. This is still based on Android. In a press release, Huawei itself primarily focuses on data protection and security functions. For example, sensitive information in images should be automatically removed if they want to be shared.
However, you still have to be prepared for the fact that Google services cannot be used on the device. Instead, you get the Huawei Mobile Services.

The Huawei Mate 50 Pro has been available in black and silver since the end of October for 1,199 euros. If you order the cell phone in Huawei’s own online shop by November 20th, you will get the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 for free.
