Matt Pokora, a godfather invested in the fight against Alzheimer's disease and forgetfulness

Alzheimer’s disease is at the heart of our society, due to the increasing aging of the population. The number of cases is increasing year by year. Personally touched by this scourge, Matt Pokora confides in his role as sponsor of the Foundation for Medical Research.

"900,000 people suffer from Alzheimer’s disease in France. So that's several million affected if you count the entourage for whom support is very difficult … To date, there is no treatment. The solution will come from medical research. ", explains Matt Pokora. The artist closely affected by Alzheimer's disease, did not hesitate for a second to lend his media image and his time to the Foundation for Medical Research (FRM).

During our interview with Matt Pokora, the singer and actor spoke with sincerity about the importance of being a sponsor of such a cause. "There is no miracle cure, we must push research to be able to make real progress, to be able to live with this disease and in the near future to eradicate it.", he explains to us.

The sponsor insists on the fact that society must be made aware of what this disease represents and implies, especially when "we are accompanying".

"It can wreak havoc within a family. It's very hard psychologically. It's not just forgetting words or what we did five minutes ago. (…) The accompanying persons, ask for advice and when you feel that the situation is becoming dangerous for you, do not hesitate to call a center, to place your loved one in a structure. We are not trained for this. ", Matt Pokora admits.

"We want to mobilize the best teams working on the subject and also attract new players; enough to open up new fields of research. It is from the confluence of disciplines that original avenues will emerge. With a central objective: to finally understand the mechanisms of onset of Alzheimer's disease in order to prevent it, diagnose it early and reliably and treat it. ", says Valérie Lemarchande, scientific director, on the foundation's website.

The FRM estimates that 2.1 million people over 65 could be affected by Alzheimer's by 2040. Mobilizing the French on this subject is therefore a necessity, in order to advance research on the disease.

Thus, on the occasion of the World Day against Alzheimer’s disease, the FRM is launching from Thursday September 17 to Monday September 21, 2020, a major campaign of mobilization and appeal for donations. The funds raised will finance promising and innovative research work on Alzheimer's disease. TF1, France Télévisions and its France 2 and France 3, M6 and Canal + antennas will broadcast a campaign spot "which unites the public around an ambitious, positive collective societal project that carries common sense."

Everyone can engage at their level in the fight against forgetting. To make a donation, visit the FRM website.
