Matthew McConaughey could run for governor of Texas. It is a "real consideration," said the Hollywood star.

Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey (51, "Dallas Buyers Club") is apparently seriously considering running for governor of Texas next year. On the podcast "The Balanced Voice", the native Texan (Uvalde) said that such a candidacy was "a real consideration". "I think I have a few things to teach and share," the star continued. He has been preoccupied with this future question for a long time: "What is my role, what is my task in the next phase of my life that I am now taking on?"

Republican Greg Abbott, 63, is currently the governor of Texas. It remains to be seen whether he will compete against the Hollywood star in the election next year. But if Matthew McConaughey actually did compete and prevail, he would be following in big footsteps. Because before him, Arnold Schwarzenegger (73, "Terminator") switched from acting to politics. From 2003 to 2011 he was California Governor.

One of his predecessors in this office was the former actor Ronald Reagan (1911-2004, "Kings Row"). From 1967 to 1975 he was the 33rd governor of California. But, as is well known, his political career was far from over here: From 1981 to 1989 Reagan was also the 40th President of the United States.
