Great sadness for actor Matthew Perry (1969-2023). As “TMZ” and other US media reported, the “Friends” actor was found dead in his hot tub on Saturday (October 28). He was only 54 years old. Many stars and colleagues pay tribute to the Chandler Bing actor on social media.
“The funniest person in the room”
Alyssa Milano (50), who appeared in front of the camera with Perry for “Dance ‘Til Dawn”, among others, wrote in an Instagram post: “Matty was always the funniest person in the room. And the nicest.” Then she addressed her words directly to Perry: “Matty, do you remember when we played bingo in church? You made me laugh, a painful laugh. You made me laugh and cry. My condolences to everyone, who loved him.”
Actress Selma Blair (51) expressed her dismay on Instagram and called the deceased her “oldest friend.” She captioned a selfie of the two of them: “We all loved Matthew Perry, and me especially. Every day. I loved him unconditionally. And he loved me. And I’m broken. Heartbroken. Sweet dreams, Matty. Sweet dreams. “
“Beverly Hills, 90210” star Shannen Doherty (52) also mourned in an Instagram post about her colleague, who had a guest appearance in the series, and looked back, among other things, at a shared incident: “Matt and I had a date, and that was on Valentine’s Day. He wanted to reserve a table at a restaurant in Malibu, but that worked out not, so my dad made the reservation for him. We went and he spent most of the evening talking about my dad’s Irish persuasion. Our friendship lasted a long time. A lifetime, actually. […] I could be more poetic or express things better, but right now it’s shock and sadness that prevail.”
Colleague Olivia Munn, 43, said in an Instagram Story: “Oh no. He struggled so much with addiction and was brave enough to be open and honest about it. I’m so sorry to his family and friends who are receiving the news today . Nothing short of heartbreaking. Rest in love, Matthew Perry.”
Rumer Willis (35), whose father Bruce Willis (68) was in front of the camera with Perry for “No Half Measures,” also made a statement via Instagram Story: “I am so sad to hear about the death of Matthew Perry. As I was a kid and on set while he and my dad were filming, he was so kind and funny and sweet to my sisters and I. The movie still makes me laugh, I know he had a lot of challenges in his life and brought people a lot of joy with his comedy, I hope he can rest in peace.”
“Success story from Ottawa”
The Canadian comedian Tom Green (52), who like Perry grew up in Ottawa, Canada, wrote at X: “I am shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic death of Matthew Perry. He is one of the many talented and incredible success stories from my hometown of Ottawa, Canada. Rest in peace Matthew.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, 51, one of Perry’s schoolmates in Ottawa, also attended at X Farewell: “Matthew Perry’s death is shocking and sad. I will never forget the games we played in the schoolyard, and I know people around the world will never forget the joy he brought them. Thank you for the many laughs, Matthew. You were loved – and we will miss you.”
Matthew Perry became world famous for his role as Chandler Bing in the series “Friends”. He appeared in all ten seasons of the most successful series of the 1990s. He was born on August 19, 1969 in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and grew up in Ottawa, Canada. He attended elementary school there with Justin Trudeau. His father John Bennett Perry (82) was an actor and model. As a teenager, Perry moved to Los Angeles and landed his first guest appearances on television. His big breakthrough came in 1994 with the NBC sitcom “Friends”.
