Matthew Perry convinced Julia Roberts for her guest appearance on the sitcom "Friends" – with a flirt by fax.

In 1996 Hollywood star Julia Roberts made a guest appearance on "Friends". As the makers of the cult sitcom have now revealed, it was mainly thanks to Matthew Perrys (51). Roberts competed skillfully – by fax.

The Chandler actor asked Roberts to appear on the series. This should have answered him: "Write an essay about quantum physics for me and I'll do it", remembers Kevin Bright, one of the minds behind the series, in an interview with the industry magazine "The Hollywood Reporter". Perry didn't hesitate to write the essay and fax it to Roberts the next day.

The back and forth by fax was quite a flirtation, adds "Friends" author Alexa Junge. The whole team kept giving Perry tips, even if he could have coped very well on his own. "We wanted it to work out for him," explains Junge. And that was apparently the case: Jeff Astrof, another author, explains that Roberts and Perry went on some dates afterwards.
