DJI has unveiled its new Mavic 3 Classic, a drone with a large sensor in 4/3 format with an ultra-wide-angle lens, but without a telephoto lens.

A year after the announcement of the DJI Mavic 3, the Chinese manufacturer has just presented its new mid-range drone. Nevertheless, the time is not yet for the fourth generation of drone, but for a more sober version, logically baptized “DJI Mavic 3 Classic”.

This new model in fact completes a range of drones which has grown considerably in one year since the release of the Mavic 3, with the Mavic 3 Cine, Mavic 3 Enterprise and Mavic 3 Thermal versions, intended for professionals.

Logically, we will find on this new DJI Mavic 3 Classic a photo and video sensor similar to that of the Mavic 3. It is therefore a sensor in 4/3 format, therefore equivalent to what we find on a device Panasonic Lumix GH6 photo, with a definition of 20 megapixels. For recording photos, the DJI Mavic 3 Classic is also capable of recording shots in 12-bit RAW format while it is compatible with DJI’s 10-bit D-Log format for video. The drone can also record video sequences in 5.1K at 50p, in 4K at 60p or in Full HD up to 200p. Again, these are similar specs to the original Mavic 3.

The main difference between the Mavic 3 Classic and the Mavic 3 actually comes from the lens. Unlike last year’s model, the DJI Mavic 3 Classic does not have a second camera module with a telephoto lens. A single camera is present, associated with a 24 mm equivalent wide-angle lens with variable aperture from f / 2.8 to f / 11.

Many integrated piloting modes

As usual with DJI, the Mavic 3 Classic has many automated piloting modes both for shooting and for detecting obstacles. We find in particular the ActiveTrack 5.0 function to recognize subjects, the MasterShots mode to automate shooting and editing or a QuickShots function to automate timelapses, hyperlapses and panoramas. Eight sensors are also integrated to detect obstacles, while a flight speed regulator has been added to allow pilots to concentrate on shooting.

The DJI Mavic 3 Classic is compatible with the O3+ transmission system for Full HD display at 60p up to 15 km with an RC Pro, RC or RC-N1 radio controller. Finally, the drone uses the same batteries as the Mavic 3 and benefits from an autonomy that can go up, according to the manufacturer, up to 46 minutes of flight.

The DJI Mavic 3 Classic is available from this Wednesday with the drone alone at 1499 euros, with a charger and an RC-N1 radio control at 1599 euros or with a charger and an RC radio control at 1749 euros. DJI also offers a Fly More pack for 599 euros with two batteries, a charging station, a car charger, three pairs of propellers and a carrying bag. Remember, for comparison, that the DJI Mavic 3 was launched at 2099 euros, or 600 euros more.
