Unusual picture on Thursday evening: Instead of Maybrit Illner, Matthias Fornoff welcomed the political talk on ZDF. Why the presenter failed.

Those who switched on the political talk "Maybrit Illner" on ZDF on Thursday evening (December 10th) could look forward to well-known guests from politics. But one thing was missing: the hostess herself. Moderator Maybrit Illner (55) had to be represented by colleague Matthias Fornoff (57) because she was "sick in bed with a stupid infection". Fornoff, who regularly moderates the "Politbarometer" and is head of the "Politics and Current Affairs" editorial department at ZDF, mastered his spontaneous efforts with flying colors.

At the beginning of the broadcast, he explained: Illner's absence does not hide an infection with the corona virus. Corresponding tests were negative. "Get well soon from all of us here", the journalist is quoted on the show's official Twitter page. Illner has moderated the weekly talk show since 1999, until 2007 it was still running under the name "Berlin Mitte".
