Mayor wanted – Salzburg looks to the Innsbruck election

Tension before the ballot in the Tyrolean state capital. Bernhard Auinger was on an election campaign visit on Tuesday.

Three weeks after the mayor’s decision in the city of Salzburg, the next important city election is on the calendar. Innsbruck is electing a new local council and mayor today. Since there are 13 mayoral candidates and just as many lists, a runoff election is likely in two weeks. The political bureaus in the city and state of Salzburg are also looking forward to the Tyrolean capital. Unlike in Salzburg, the Greens with city leader Georg Willi have the chance of taking first place in the local council and making it into the runoff election. The same applies to the FPÖ, which – with no chance in Salzburg – is fighting for the most votes with the Greens and has a chance of making it to the runoff election. The ÖVP is hoping for more support than in Salzburg; former State Secretary Florian Tursky would like to lead the party into the runoff election. The SPÖ, which received support from Salzburg’s new mayor Bernhard Auinger at the end of the election campaign, only has an outside chance. The KPÖ Plus is significantly weaker than in Salzburg. Merely joining the local council would be a success.
