March 14 (Reuters) – French Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire on Tuesday welcomed progress made with his European counterparts during a meeting in Brussels on the reform of EU fiscal rules .
Europe needs new budgetary rules to restore public finances and allow investment, said Bruno Le Maire about the reform of the Stability Pact, whose conclusions he welcomed.
The European Commission is now expected to present legislative proposals in the coming weeks, the minister added.
The European Stability and Growth Pact, which provides for a ceiling on public deficits at 3% of GDP and public debt at 60%, has been suspended due to the coronavirus crisis and then the conflict in Ukraine. (Report Leigh Thomas, written by Kate Entringer, edited by Matthieu Protard)
