  • The sci-fi series is about Thomas and a group of boys who try to find freedom through a labyrinth that surrounds them.
  • An upcoming reboot of the series is intended to tell the story with completely new elements, but will not be a direct sequel.

Director Wes Ball produced the successful science fiction series “Maze Runner,” which is based on the equally successful young adult book series “The Scorch Trials” by author James Dashner. With actors such as Dylan O’Brien and Kaya Scodelario (“The Gentlemen”), the film adaptation of the first part was particularly successful. The film grossed 348 million dollars worldwide.

The film tells the story of the boy Thomas, who wakes up in a clearing with no memories and from then on tries, together with a group of other boys, to escape the surrounding labyrinth and the dangers lurking there.

Since the plot of the main books has been adapted into three films, there is only the possibility of continuing the series with the two prequel volumes “The Scorch Trials – Kill Order” (2015) and “The Scorch Trials – Phase Zero” (2016). Disney has announced that there will be a reboot of the “Maze Runner” series, in which the story will be brought back with completely new elements.

For three years now, they have been sending two “runners” into the terrifying, meter-high maze, but so far the missions have been unsuccessful. When Tessa finally joins the group as the only girl, a whole new dynamic develops.
