In the United States, many McDonald’s establishments have integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into McDrive. The latter welcomes customers by car and takes their orders… and sometimes has a few hiccups.

Since 2019, McDonald’s has been investing in AI to, in particular, offer personalized menus to customers. However, some of its systems are still approximate.

funny situations

They are being tested in several of its American McDrives and use AI to, for example, offer menu items based on trending foods or the weather. The fast food giant, however, did not reveal how many of its stores were equipped with these devices.

One thing is certain, they are numerous enough to become fashionable on TikTok, where more and more Americans are complaining, with humor, of the errors made by AIs when they go to order at McDrive. In one of the testimonials, the bot attempted to add bacon to a customer’s ice cream, in another, a young woman tries to get a simple vanilla ice cream, but her order displays ketchup and extra butter, without her being able to remove them.

In another case, the AI added way too many nuggets to a customer’s menu, for the low price of $250. In the comments of these videos, many Internet users relate similar facts.

Bots in fast food will be more and more numerous

Of course, the restaurants where the bots are tested also have human employees, who can take over in the event of an error. However, McDonald’s has opened a fully automated establishment in Texas, it has an order picking lane and delivers them to customers using a conveyor belt.

Fast food chains are increasingly adopting bots in the United States, while labor is becoming increasingly scarce. This is for example the case of Chipotle, or even Sonic. Hopefully they will improve over time…
