The President of the Republic responded to those who reproach him for the many contracts signed by the State with consulting firms, in particular McKinsey.
On March 17, the Senate revealed that the number of government contracts with these firms had “more than doubled” between 2018 and 2021, for a record amount of more than one billion euros in 2021. And this Friday, March 25, the senators took legal action to “suspicion of false testimony” against a McKinsey executive who had assured in mid-January that the firm paid corporate tax in France. An extremely sensitive subject for the government, accused of having multiplied contracts with these firms since Emmanuel Macron came to power, with contracts most often not disclosed to the public.

“We have the impression that there are tricks, it’s not true”replied the president with a touch of annoyance, before adding: “No contract is signed in the Republic without respecting the rule of public procurement.“He also explained that for him, when ministries are”day and night at work”, “that they ask external service providers to help them does not shock me”.
While the McKinsey cabin is implicated by the Senate for not having paid corporate tax in France for several years, Emmanuel Macron estimated that this situation was explained by the tax rules in force.
