  • Health Minister Alain Berset is now providing information on the further steps in implementing the care initiative. We’re livestreaming it here.
  • The planned measures include better working conditions, professional development and better compensation for care services.
  • A new federal law and other measures are intended to reduce the number of early retirements.

For example, wage supplements for short-term work assignments are to be paid in the future for the entire care sector. Duty rosters should also have to be announced longer in advance. In addition, the Federal Council wants to oblige the social partners to negotiate a collective employment agreement (GAV) – without a final guarantee. In May, a training offensive was passed in a first stage, for which up to one billion Swiss francs are earmarked over a period of eight years.

In many places, the “nursing emergency” has been pointed out in recent months. Several hospitals are on the attack due to a lack of staff. By the end of 2021, the people and the estates had clearly accepted the care initiative.
