In order to stream series and films, viewers do not necessarily have to use providers such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.

Almost everyone streams films and series via providers such as Netflix. But there are also free alternatives.

The streaming market is highly competitive. Providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Sky Ticket are vying for subscribers with thousands of films and series. Several subscriptions at the same time can quickly become quite expensive for users. But there are also alternatives that promise entertainment completely free of charge.

The media libraries

The media libraries of the public broadcasters are financed through the broadcasting fee. Viewers can access a wide variety of content there at no additional cost. In addition to live TV, there are media libraries the public broadcaster, of ZDF or by Arte such as numerous documentaries, films and series. Users can currently see the latest “crime scene” or productions such as “Oktoberfest 1900” and “Der Pass” online.

The private broadcasters

RTL Group and ProSiebenSat.1 Media also allow series and films to be streamed free of charge. On Joyn In addition to TV productions such as “Germany’s next top model”, viewers are currently seeing series such as “NCIS” or the Oscar-winning drama “Million Dollar Baby” with Hilary Swank (47) and Clint Eastwood (91). However, premium access is required for many other types of content.

Other providers

The film distributor UCM.ONE operates the channel group “Cinenet”, which includes, among other things the YouTube channel “Cinenet Germany” belongs. Here, too, users of the video platform can see numerous films free of charge – often older productions from the horror area. But there are also action, dramas, thrillers or westerns.

“Netzkino” offers meanwhile, according to its own statements, more than 2,500 films that users stream free of charge. There are productions from all imaginable genres, including older Hollywood films and classics such as “Almost Famous” with Kate Hudson (42) or “Networked – Johnny Mnemonic” with Keanu Reeves (57).
