As part of its Google News Initiative, Google would have paid certain press publishers to use a suite of artificial intelligence tools throughout 2024. This is what the magazine reveals Adweek.
Google would have first carried out a vast call for applications last October, before selecting a panel of press organizations at the very beginning of the year. The tool set up by Google would allow a magazine to draw up a list of external websites regularly producing information relevant to its readership, before reworking a subject, in order to generate (via AI) a brand new article.
Journalistic content generated by AI… at Google’s request?
At the end of the process, a human editor would check the text for accuracy before publishing three articles per day. According to Adweekthe program set up by Google would not require these AI-assisted articles to be labeled as such.
Under the deal, publishers would be asked to use the suite of AI tools to produce a certain volume of content for 12 months. We particularly mention the publication of three articles per day and one newsletter per week.
In return, media outlets receive a monthly stipend of a five-figure annual amount depending on Adweekas well as the means to produce free content relevant to their readership.
A “responsible” experimental tool according to Google
On the Google side, we indicate that this experimental tool is designed “ responsibly ”, to help small local publishers produce quality journalism using factual content from public data sources.
The American giant promises that these tools are not intended to replace the essential role of journalists in writing, creating and verifying their articles.
When it was launched in 2018, the Google News Initiative highlighted three objectives, namely to bring out reliable and quality information
evolve economic models to generate sustainable growth
and strengthen news organizations through technological innovation.
“ In partnership with news publishers, especially smaller ones, we are starting to explore ideas for providing AI-based tools to help journalists in their work “, indicated a Google spokesperson.
You are being tracked. All. Yes, despite its fine speeches about security, Google is tracking you. Tirelessly. It’s an open secret that the majority of Google’s revenue is based on advertising. So to make it more relevant, it must be attractive and meet the specific needs of the Internet user. How to achieve this? Quite simply by multiplying the techniques to track the latter.
