MediaMarkt is breaking new ground: buying Bitcoin has never been so easy


Unknown online platforms, a jungle of technical terms and a lack of technical understanding: many people are interested in cryptocurrencies, but shy away from entering the world of Bitcoin and Co. MediaMarkt now wants to change that and bring cryptocurrency to the mass market. A trip to the branch is then sufficient.

Inflation rose to more than 7 percent last month, its highest level in 40 years. Consumers fear for their money, because there is no end in sight to the price increases, mainly due to the Ukraine war. Cryptocurrencies do not know inflation in the classic sense. Anyone who has always wanted to buy Bitcoin, but only understands terms like “blockchain” at the train station, now has the chance at MediaMarkt – at least if he lives in Austria.

MediaMarkt Austria sets up Bitcoin machines

In our neighboring country, the electronics retailer recently significantly expanded its existing partnership with Kurant. There are now Bitcoin ATMs in twelve branches across the country. About that MediaMarkt customers can buy bitcoins (Source: Kurant).

“In order to easily and securely acquire bitcoin, stationary machines open up a low-threshold alternative for the purchase of cryptocurrencies,” says Kurant, who claims to be the European market leader in the field of bitcoin machines. The first of these Bitcoin machines was set up in a Vienna MediaMarkt in 2019.

So far, the Bitcoin machines are standing only available to Austrian customers of MediaMarkt. It is currently not known whether a similar partnership is also planned in Germany.
