MediaTek presents the Dimensity 8200, a mid-range SoC that displays its ambitions

MediaTek intends to occupy each price segment with a competitive SoC, capable of competing with those of the American Qualcomm. After drawing a rather attractive Dimensity 9200 for the high end, the Taiwanese has just presented its new Dimensity 8200. A chipset which is intended for more affordable devices, but does not skimp on power for all that.

This octa-core chip engraved in 4 nanometers, therefore potentially less energy-consuming, seems indeed ideal for the many contenders for the title of flagship killer. On closer inspection, we see that MediaTek was inspired by the Dimensity 9200 here, but obviously deprived it of a few refinements to design this model.

Here we are entitled to a Cortex-A78 main core clocked at 3.1 GHz, which the Dimensity 8000 and 8100 did not have. This is therefore a great step forward in terms of processing heavy tasks.

It is supported by four more classic Cortex A-78 cores, but operating at a higher frequency than before (3 GHz against 2.85 GHz for the Dimensity 8100). Four 2GHz Cortex-A55 cores complete the picture. It supports LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. On the connectivity side, there is support for 5G, 6E wifi and Bluetooth 5.3 (with LE audio).

A SoC that promises to ensure in game

For the graphics part, there is a Mali-G610 MC6 chip capable of supporting screens in FHD + definition up to 180 Hz and WQHD + up to 120 Hz. Intelligent Display Sync 2.0 technology makes it possible to precisely adapt the display to the frame rate games.

The SoC is also equipped with an Imagiq 785 image processor, capable of handling a main sensor up to 320 Mpx. It can work on three different sensors, supports double exposure in HDR, and is capable of shooting 4K at 60 frames per second.

The integration of a more efficient main core allows it to support Hyper Engine 6.0 technology. Developed in-house, and working in particular on the Dimensity 9200, it promises even more successful performance in game.

Well aware that Chinese manufacturers are seeking to gain independence from American technologies, the Taiwanese is working hard to convince. If this Dimensity 8200 keeps its promises, it should be found in many mobiles with a very aggressive price/quality ratio.

The IQOO Neo 7 SE is already equipped with it, but is not available on the European market. There is no doubt that more widely distributed models will be equipped with it very soon.
