While Qualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, the response is organized in the stable opposite. The Taiwanese MediaTek, whose chips are found in more and more smartphones this year, we are presenting a Dimensity 1050 that could do poorly in the mid-range segment.

As its name suggests, the Dimensity 1050 is presented as a slightly more modest version of the Dimensity 1100 which notably equips the vivo S12 in China. But its originality is that it is the first SoC from the manufacturer to simultaneously offer coverage of millimeter waves (or mmWave) and Sub-6 GHz.

In our smartphones next September

Engraved in 6 nm, the Dimensity 1050 leaves the race for raw performance to others. However, it embeds an 8-core processor in which a couple of Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.5 GHz will be responsible for making all the tasks undertaken on the smartphone fluid. The company did not give details of the other cores, but Gizmochina understands that it would be six efficient Cortex-A55s.

The Dimensity 1050 will not be outdone when it comes to video games. Indeed, it will rely on a Mali-G610 GPU and the HyperEngine 5.0 software suite to optimize everything.

The processor will display a Full HD + definition and a refresh rate capping at 144 Hz. It will be able to decode the AV1 codec, and play HDR10 + and Dolby Vision content. It also supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage chips.

Finally, in terms of connectivity, the new MediaTek SoC therefore promises support for mmWave and Sub-6 GHz bands for a supposedly 53% higher throughput than platforms offering only aggregation of 4G and millimeter bands. Wi-Fi 6E is also included.

In its press release, MediaTek indicates that the first mobiles equipped with its new chip will arrive on the market by the end of the third quarter of 2022, i.e. the end of September.
