MediaTek will launch a more powerful version of its Dimensity 8000 chip

A faster version of the Dimensity 8000 chip may well be planned by MediaTek, even though the Dimensity 8000 is not even launched yet.

The Taiwanese SoC manufacturer MediaTek would be ready to launch a more powerful version of the Dimensity 8000 unveiled last year. Dubbed Dimensity 8100 for now, the chip would support higher frequencies and would normally debut on March 1.

A Dimensity 8100 to replace the Dimensity 8000

This information is not yet official: it comes from Digital Chat Stationa insider known in the industry, who spoke on Weibo. The latter thus claims that the upcoming 8100 chip is a derivative version of the Dimensity 8000, with a higher frequency. He also adds in his post that some manufacturers intend to use it for their devices, several of them having already modified their orders with the specialist in mobile processors. The story doesn’t say what the frequency speed of the 8100 is though…

The Dimensity 8000 is made up of 4x Cortex-A78 (2.75 GHz) and 4x Cortex-A55 (2.0 GHz) processor cores. It takes its place in MediaTek’s mid-range, below the Dimensity 9000, which goes up to 3.05 GHz, and above the Dimensity 1000 – as well as competitor Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870. It also uses an older architecture, ARMv8, while the Dimensity 9000 uses ARMv9.

The frequency boost brought by this Dimensity 8100 chip should, logically, induce better performance for the smartphones that will use it.

The Dimensity 8000 was supposed to launch in March. It is therefore possible, if we rely on information from Digital Chat Station, that MediaTek replaces it with version 8100.
