Medical messaging: Doctolib acquires the Dutch Siilo

The French unicorn Doctolib acquires Siilo, a Dutch start-up which has developed collaborative messaging for caregivers, mentions Les Echos.

This acquisition should help Doctolib to ramp up on Doctolib Team, its messaging solution for caregivers launched in 2022. Doctolib Team allows caregivers to exchange and share documents, and to create collaborative patient cases, but also to have access to a directory of health professionals.

It’s Siilo’s mobile solution that seems to have decided Doctolib to put its hand in its pocket. However, the amount and terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Doctolib Patient, Doctolib Physio and Doctolib Doctor,…

Siilo was created in 2016, and claims “nearly 500,000 users who exchange an average of 40 million messages per month”. Siilo has raised 14 million euros since its creation and has around forty employees.

While Doctolib is best known for its medical appointment booking solution, the start-up has developed other software for healthcare professionals, available by subscription, such as Doctolib Patient, Doctolib Kiné and Doctolib Médecin.

At the beginning of 2023 Doctolib indicated that it wanted to invest 92 million euros in innovations.

The company does not communicate on its turnover, and is not profitable. The company raised 500 million euros last year and this is not its first takeover. Last year, Doctolib also acquired Tanker, a French start-up specializing in end-to-end encryption. In 2021, the company also acquired Dottori to turn to the Italian market. In 2018, it bought MonDocteur, one of its main competitors.

Created in 2013, Doctolib has 2,800 employees and claims 340,000 users.
