Medicines, nappies and baby milk… The prices of these products sold in pharmacies have soared

Pharmacists are currently seeing a surge in the prices of certain drugstore products, without really understanding the reasons for these price increases. These products include certain infant milks, nappies and also medicines.

In recent months, pharmaceutical companies have made price increases on some of their products. Faced with this phenomenon, many pharmacists fail to hide their incomprehension.

Sometimes incomprehensible price increases

Many references now cost 6, 7 or 8 euros more expensive than before the Covid crisis. During the pandemic, we were in hyper-care. It’s only today, when we breathe a little, that we realize the extent of these flightsand some of them are incomprehensible, confided to the Parisian Pierre-Olivier Jacquot, pharmacist Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle).

The finding is similar among wholesalers. For two months, 80% of the 320 labs I work with have reassessed their list prices, most often 7 15%!, assured Audrey Lecoq, the founder of Pharmazon, a wholesaler of parapharmacy products and medicines.

Arguments that struggle to convince pharmacists

Thus, since January 2020, the price of Pampers diapers has exploded by 91.3%! Faced with this dramatic increase, the Procter & Gamble laboratory simply responded: At P&G Health, we are committed to providing our consumers with trusted brands that offer both superior performance and high added value.

Two drugs have also seen a sharp rise in price, these are Coquelusdal and Actisoufre. At the same time, nine infant formulas also experienced price increases of between 10.9 and 33.1%. The arguments put forward by the laboratories, such as the war in Ukraine or the rise in the price of certain raw materials, are struggling to convince pharmacists. Some suspect the laboratories of taking advantage of the context to increase their margins.
