Medion Erazer: an arcade cabinet and a name change!

The German brand Medion, behind which Lenovo hides, took advantage of Gamescom in its native lands to announce the launch of a brand new product that will speak to video game enthusiasts in general, and arcade games in general. particular. It is indeed the Iconic Arcade, an arcade terminal (you guessed it) allowing you to play classic titles from the world of retrogaming.

This terminal is based on a Raspberry 4 to have the most open ecosystem possible. The user will thus be able to install the emulator battery of his choice. We are of course thinking of Recalbox, but it is also possible to opt for Retro Pie or Batocera. For your information, Batocera includes more than 50 emulators allowing you to find the sensations of many consoles (from the Game Boy to the PS2 via the Megadrive, the PSP or the Lynx), certain microcomputers (Amiga 500 or 1200 , Atari ST, Apple II, Amstrad CPC…) and of course good old arcade terminals via the famous MAME. Recalbox, meanwhile, offers more than 100 Atari Halo, Game Boy, Sega, Nintendo and Vectrex games. The player will be able to find in the various online shops a considerable amount of great classics of video games. Steam is even supported! Who says emulation often says hack, but according to the manufacturer, the Iconic Arcade will already be configured to operate without complicated settings as many titles as possible. For the others, it will be necessary to carry out some manipulations that the brand announces as being within the reach of the greatest number.

The Iconic Arcade will be offered in three formats: console (to be connected to an external screen), Tabletop (with integrated screen, but to be placed on a table) and finally Arcade Cabinet (the classic format of the local café, to be placed on the floor ). The latter two designs rely on a 21-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display with two 4-inch speakers powered by a Class-D amplifier, which might make swearing enthusiasts wince. by CRT screens for the type of games planned.

The Iconic Arcade incorporates 1 GB of RAM, a microSD slot for the OS and data, four USB sockets, a micro-HDMI video output and a jack for audio output and, perhaps, to connect particular peripherals arcade games like roulette Missile Command. Medion goes by the wayside

Medion Erazer also took advantage of this announcement to formalize its name change. The brand becomes Erazer, exit hence the name Medion after 15 years on the market. To mark the occasion, a European tour will begin with a giant truck in the colors of Erazer, which will pass through Paris from November 1 to 5 for Paris Games Week. The Erazer Truck will then take the road to the Netherlands and Sweden. It will house the entire range of the brand, which can be tested by visitors. The new entity wishes to emphasize that it retains its independence from its parent company. It thus has its own research and development centre.
