The small Swedish Jetson ONE aircraft looks basic, but it is quite capable of flying. Clubic met its inventor at the VivaTech show.

The fantasy of the flying car still runs, but Jetson seems able to make it a little more of a reality, subject of course to the first regulatory agreements, particularly expected. After months of trials and tests as extensive as they are rigorous, the Swedish start-up founded in 2017, whose founder Tomasz Patan we met at VivaTech, is able to fly its single-seater eVTOL and make us dream a little. Or not, depending.

Jetson ONE, the 86-kilo flying car

Here is the first flying car available on the market says Tomasz Patan when he arrives in front of his stand, in the space reserved for tomorrow’s mobility. We then discover the Jetson One, a small aircraft with electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) of 86 kg empty, with dimensions of 2.48 mx 1.5 mx 1.03 m.

The pocket format is surprising and obviously contrasts with certain prototypes that you may have discovered in our columns or elsewhere. The car ” is extremely easy to ride “, according to Tomasz, who promises us a “ get started in five minutes “, thanks to a special flight computer, which facilitates learning and makes it much easier to maneuver than a helicopter or traditional plane.

The machine can reach 100 km / h, but the speed was more reasonable on the tests seen on video.

20 minutes of scheduled flight time per charge

The Jetson ONE has two joysticks: a 3-axis joystick on the right that allows you to steer the machine in the direction you want to fly, and an accelerator lever on the left, which also allows you to regulate the height at which you want to fly. we want to be placed.

The construction of the device seems, as we said above, rather summary. But it was actually designed to make the car both safe and easy to drive, with an aluminum chassis, accompanied by carbon fiber and Kevlar.

Regarding autonomy: Jetson promises us 20 minutes of flight, with a charging time of one hour on 220 V and two hours on 110 V. The start-up explains to us that by having several batteries, it is enough to land, replace an empty unit with a full one, and you can take to the skies again.

For the moment, 400 copies of Jetson One have already been sold, and this, since the start of sales, last October. ” I am convinced that this is the beginning of the revolution in air transport bet Tomasz Patan, determined to make us dream a little more.
