Meeting in Bolzano – Transit trucks should have to book the highway beforehand

Is it one of countless announcements that are not followed by action – or is there more to it this time? At a meeting of the transport department heads from Bavaria, Tyrol and South Tyrol in Bozen, a slot system was spoken for – i.e. a bookable motorway for transit trucks.

They wanted to work on cross-border, digital traffic management, it said on Friday afternoon. “For Bavaria, this would mean the end of traffic jams in block handling,” said Bavaria’s Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU). He was pleased that the members of the government of all three regions had dealt with the topic together for the first time. “With digital traffic management for transit trucks, the Brenner corridor could become a model region from which both the burdened population and the transport industry will benefit equally,” he said. South Tyrol’s Mobility Councilor Daniel Alfreider (SVP) also agreed: “It’s important for Joint traffic management is above all the exchange of traffic data in order to create more predictability – the three countries want to work on this together”. Working group presented ideas A working group now presented its results to the politically responsible persons. It was agreed to draw up a joint declaration, which should then be presented to the provincial governors of Tyrol and South Tyrol. Ultimately, however, an agreement is needed at national level. There the mood between the Italian and German transport ministers, Matteo Salvini (Lega) and Volker Wissing (FDP) on the one hand and the Austrian transport minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) on the other, was not particularly good.
