Mega flop: That’s why “Shrek 5” can still save Dreamworks!

ENTERTAINMENT

Shrek 5 has been in production hell for years. Now the animated film could be given higher priority and “Shrek 5” could be traded as Dreamworks’ savior!

  • Recently, Dreamworks has been able to celebrate success almost exclusively with sequels, not with creative new ideas.
  • “Ruby Dives” is currently a flop at the box office and the animation studio needs another huge box office hit.
  • With a pretty safe $750 minimum gross, Shrek 5 is the hit maker the studio needs!

“Shrek 5” was announced ages ago and then the film never materialized. With “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish”, “Shrek 5” became a whole lot more likely and now almost unavoidable, because Dreamworks urgently needs a mega hit!

Currently, the animation studio has the film “Ruby Dives Down” in the cinemas and unfortunately the film turns out to be a flop. The animation fun didn’t get off that well with the critics either. The last Dreamworks film before that, which was also not a sequel, was “The Gangster Gang”.

Unfortunately, “Die Gangster Gang” wasn’t the big hit either, and for a number of years Dreamworks seems to have had little success with new films that aren’t sequels. No wonder the next movies are “Kung Fu Panda 4” and “Trolls 3”. But no Dreamworks film series can match “Shrek”!

Shrek 5: A sure thing – Dreamworks can count on at least 750 million US dollars at the box office!

While “Trolls” as a franchise has so far brought in revenues of 700 million US dollars (about 350 million per film on average), the “Kung Fu Panda” series Dreamworks has brought in a whole 1.8 billion US dollars. Sounds like a lot? “Shrek” ranks at 3.9 billion US dollars.

Based on the film’s earnings to date, Dreamworks can expect “Shrek 5” to gross at least $750. As a comparison, once again: “The Gangster Gang” took in around 250 million US dollars.

Dreamworks: Will “Shrek 5” be coming soon?

With “Kung Fu Panda 4” and “Trolls 3”, Dreamworks has two promising films in the pipeline. However, in order to get the most out of it again, a prioritization of “Shrek 5” seems to be unavoidable. The film has been in the works for a long time and the success of “Puss in Boots 2” has proven that viewers want more stories from the “Shrek” universe!

When exactly we can expect “Shrek 5” is not known. The voice actors like Antonio Banderas, Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy have definitely already expressed their interest. Now Dreamworks only has to ensure that the film is finally produced.

Although a minimum box office result of 750 US dollars is of course expected, Dreamworks should not forget to shoot a good film. If “Shrek 5” is bad, the studio could ruin the whole brand and a brand like “Shrek” doesn’t usually have it.

There’s a lot of pressure on Dreamworks and Shrek 5 and we hope they can handle it. As soon as there is official information about “Shrek 5”, we will report it!
