Mel Gibson returns to the director’s chair after a long hiatus. Flight Risk will star Mark Wahlberg.

Hollywood legend Mel Gibson (67) returns to the director’s chair for the first time since his Oscar triumph in 2017 with “Hacksaw Ridge – The Decision” with the film “Flight Risk”. This is reported by the industry magazine “Deadline”. The Lionsgate-produced film will star Mark Wahlberg, 51, who plays the role of a pilot who must transport a dangerous criminal to a trial.

Wahlberg and Gibson already know each other from the 2022 biopic “Father Stu” about the American boxer and priest Stuart Long (1963-2014). They previously starred in the 2017 comedy Daddy’s Home 2 – More Dads, More Problems! on the side of Will Ferrell (55) together in front of the camera.

Production company is enthusiastic about the new project

“We are thrilled with the undeniably exciting pairing of Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg,” said Lionsgate Chairman Joe Drake of his new project. Both are “world-class talents”. In his opinion, “Flight Risk” will be one of the most exciting and worth seeing events of the year.

Gibson has directed only five films in his nearly 50-year Hollywood career, but all of those films have been box-office hits. Aside from Hacksaw Ridge, Gibson has only directed The Man With No Face (1993), Braveheart (1995), The Passion of the Christ (2004) and Apocalypto (2006).
