Melania Trump (53) mourns her mother. Amalija Knavs (1945-2024) died at the beginning of the year at the age of 78. This is what the former first lady and wife of ex-President Donald Trump (77) said announced on X.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce the death of my beloved mother Amalija. Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always presented herself with grace, warmth and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, her daughters, her grandson and her son-in-law.” The family will “miss her beyond measure and will honor and love her legacy.”

An exact cause of death is not known. However, Amalija Knavs was recently “very sick,” as Donald Trump explained during a New Year’s Eve celebration at his Mar-a-Lago property in the US state of Florida. His wife Melania was absent from the event because she was in the hospital with her mother in Miami. “Your mother Amalija is very sick, but hopefully she will recover,” Trump said, among other things.
Melania Trump, who comes from Slovenia and has also had US citizenship since 2006, helped her parents immigrate to the USA. Amalija and Viktor Knavs took the oath in a New York court in 2018, during the administration of former President Trump. In recent years, the couple lived in Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach, where Melania and Donald Trump also live.
