Mourning for “Merry Christmas” star Melinda Dillon: The US actress died at the age of 83.

Melinda Dillon (1939-2023) is dead. The US actress, who was known among other things for the Christmas classic “Merry Christmas” (1983), died according to an obituary on January 9 at the age of 83.

The character actress began her career in theater. Dillon played, among other things, in the US premiere on Broadway in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”. She received a Tony Award nomination for her performance.

Twice nominated for an Oscar

She started her film career in the late 1960s. She was twice nominated for an Oscar: in 1978 for Steven Spielberg’s (76) film “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and in 1981 for “The Sensational Reporter”. She was also successful with the strips “This Country Is My Country” (1976) and “Magnolia” (1999). Melinda Dillon was married to actor Richard Libertini (1933-2016) from 1963 to 1978, with whom she has a son.
