Bill and Melinda Gates had been married for 27 years when they suddenly announced the end of their marriage in May last year. Now Melinda speaks openly about this difficult time.

In 1994 they said yes, had three children together and were known as an absolute power couple. That should change in May 2021: Bill, 66, and Melinda Gates, 58, announced their divorce. “After careful consideration and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” they said in a joint statement.

Divorce from Bill Gates was stressful

A lot of time has passed since then. During the months of her divorce, her charity work helped Melinda to overcome the pain of her separation, the 58-year-old reveals during an appearance on the TV show “Good Morning America”, in which she also promotes her new master class . “Our philanthropy called us to be our best selves, even in the most difficult times behind the scenes,” says the 58-year-old. “We worked through the details of the divorce and were sad but we were both committed to the foundation. I think that kept us together and allowed us more grace during this time and since then things have calmed down a bit in the background .”

Melinda Gates ‘cried a lot of tears’

Five months ago, Melinda Gates first spoke about the dissolution of her marriage on CBS Mornings. Gates admitted to presenter Gayle King, 67, that she was very upset by the breakup and that she “cried a lot of tears” and “just lay on the carpet” for several days. Sadness and anger accompanied her constantly during this dark time. “It’s part of the grieving process. You mourn the loss of something you thought you had and thought you would have for life,” she explained. She now wants to share her experiences from these months in her new MasterClass, among other things.
