Several actors in the cult series The Little House on the Prairie have spoken of the sometimes toxic behavior of Michael Landon, the interpreter of Charles Ingalls, on the film sets. Abuses on which Melissa Gilbert agreed to confide without filter.

I’ve read Karen Grassle’s books, I’ve written my books. I’ve read Alison Arngrim’s book. And I think the press really did a disservice to the people who wrote those books and certainly to Michael by only telling that side of the story about him. Because, in reality, everyone’s words are very weighted“she explained to our colleagues from Entertainment TV.
The actress gave extenuating circumstances to the behavior alleged against Michael Landon, without however adhering to it. She points in particular to the role of the press in this affair. “I think the press, especially the European press, has focused only on the bad sidesinstead of looking at the weighting of what these people may have written”she added.

However, Melissa Gilbert does not question the facts that have been alleged against Michael Landon. “Michael was a perfectionist. IHe could sometimes be difficult with certain people. But back then, in the 1970s, we weren’t as politically correct as we are today. The jokes were much more risque and the environment could be very chauvinistic for adult women.
