Memory of the refugees: artists play the European anthem on the bottom of the Mediterranean

Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" has certainly never been performed like this: Between Music play the European anthem on the bottom of the Mediterranean.

The fate of the refugees, who die every day in the Mediterranean, is getting more and more out of the public eye due to the Corona crisis. The United4Rescue alliance wants to counteract this with a special campaign. For the campaign "Drowned Requiem" the Danish artist group Between Music plays the European anthem as a requiem on the bottom of the Mediterranean.

Celebrities support action

"We no longer want to watch indifferently and inactive as the Mediterranean becomes a mass grave. That is why we are commemorating all the dead refugees with this Requiem," says Sandra Bils, founding member of United4Rescue. The resulting video was published on November 15 and is also collecting donations to make a new ship seaworthy for further rescue missions. Celebrities such as model and actress Mirja du Mont (44) and model Hana Nitsche (34) support the campaign.

The Danish artist group Between Music usually dives into glass water tanks for their concerts. The action in the Mediterranean was a first for them. The artists played Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" with special underwater instruments.
