Why we care about mental health

“Mental Health Matters” – this is the motto of the Mental Health Week on BRIGITTE.de again this year. From September 26th to October 2nd we will focus intensively on the topic of mental health.

Mental health should not only be discussed during a “Mental Health Week” or on “World Mental Health Day” (October 10th every year), but all year round. We at BRIGITTE.de know that too and regularly publish content on mental health. Despite this – or precisely because of this – we want to spend a week dealing with the topic even more intensively. Enlighten, offer those affected a stage, destigmatize and share personal questions and thoughts with the readers.

Mental health is not a trend phenomenon

More and more public voices are reporting about depression, anxiety and eating disorders. The topic of “mental health” has also become a trend on social media: Influencers express themselves. There are numerous accounts out there that give and encourage mental health tips. That is very gratifying. But as is the case with trends, they disappear from the scene again after a while. Mental health is not a trendy disease.

Mental illness can affect anyone

In order to break down stigmata, prominent voices are of course not unimportant. Above to inform about mental illnesses and the awareness of it to sharpen, are the cornerstones on the road to destigmatization. But so much more is needed. We need a healthcare system, jobs, and a society that are all ready for it mental health to support financially. We want to support this approach with the “Mental Health Week”.

Mental well-being is just as important as a healthy blood count. Mental illness does not only affect “the weak”. Mental illness can affect anyone.

What to expect at “Mental Health Week”

Over the next seven days you will find a lot of content here that aims to do away with prejudices against mentally ill people. How do mentally ill people fare at work, in the family and in partnerships? Where can you get help? Affected personalities – whether prominent or not – have their say, clarify and give courage. In addition, you will also find personal thoughts, emotions and demands of the BRIGITTE.de authors.
