Mercato LoL: Faker refused big checks from a few LCS teams

Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, one of the best players in the world, leaves no one indifferent on the League of Legends esports scene. But everyone knows: the player is attached to the LCK, the level of which is above the NA region. So, to hope to sign a player of this caliber in the LCS, you have to get out the big money. In an OTV podcast, where Faker was not present to address the allegations, Scarra, Yvonne and Kobe revealed that in recent years, the Korean star had received “blank checks” from teams like Team Liquid or TSM to join the North American league.

– It’s crazy to know that Faker received blank checks like a million times and he didn’t leave…

– Yes, there are rumors that, I don’t know if it was last year or two years ago, TSM offered something huge. I don’t know if it’s true or not…

– It’s true. One or two organizations, I don’t know if it’s TSM, but maybe TL, offered a huge amount of money, for a Korean top 2 mid laner, I don’t know if it was Faker.

Blank checks for Faker

In other words, the player could put whatever amount he wanted on the transfer offer. But he preferred to remain faithful to T1, a structure with which he has played since his debut in 2013 and where he has broken all records. Good move by the way, since by staying in LCK in 2022, he notably exceeded 500 victories, exploded the bar of 2500 kills and above all fhave a historic Spring with 100% wins in the regular season and the playoffs. His contract has not yet been renewed, we will have to wait until the end of the 2022 Worlds to find out if he is resigning for an additional year.

Will Faker be able to respond to the sirens of the LCS soon? Several Europeans over the past three years, and more rarely some Asian players like CoreJJ or Berserker, have been attracted by the staggering sums offered on the NA side. Hard to believe though, especially since the star midlaner of T1 is so attached to his team that he has become a shareholder. The transfer window will begin at the end of the LoL World Tournament in November.
