Mercedes: relies on sustainable steel to reduce its emissions

(CercleFinance.com) – As part of its climate strategy, Mercedes-Benz has announced that it is prioritizing the reduction and prevention of CO₂ emissions before offsetting them.

Thus, during this decade, Mercedes-Benz aims to use more than 200,000 tons of sustainable, low-CO₂ steel from European suppliers every year.

The deployment of a sustainable steel supply chain in Europe will serve as a model for other regions.

The manufacturer recalls that steel represents up to 20% of total CO₂ emissions during the production of an electric vehicle.

By 2030 at the latest, Mercedes-Benz Cars aims to reduce the average CO₂ emissions per passenger car in the new vehicle fleet by at least half compared to by 2020, over the entire life cycle, from raw material sourcing to use and recycling.
