On its online store, Mercedes offers a new subscription called “Acceleration increase”.

And that’s unfortunately, probably, what you’re thinking.

Mercedes presents its new digital option

Like many other car manufacturers, Mercedes is fully engaged in the race for electromobility. Electric vehicles loaded with new technologies, which also benefit from regular improvements and optimizations via OTA updates.

Today, the German manufacturer decides to go further by launching a brand new digital option. This takes the form of a subscription and is called “Acceleration increase”. An annual subscription billed at $1,200 in the US and available for EQE and EQS models.

Subscription services in the automobile?

The driving sensations offered by your Mercedes-EQ are an experience that is renewed every day, in particular its powerful and immediate acceleration. The Acceleration Boost feature further enhances this performance: by electronically increasing engine power, it also dramatically increases torque “, explains the German manufacturer.

Concretely, the option aims to unleash the subscriber’s electric vehicle, giving it a performance boost. This notably involves better acceleration (for a better 0 to 100 km/h therefore), available independently of the driving mode chosen.

Mercedes explains that the electronic modification makes it possible to increase the power of the engine by 20 to 24%, depending on the initial power, the torque being also increased. For example, a 215 kW Mercedes-EQ EQE 350 4Matic will increase to 260 kW, while an EQS SUV 450 4Matic will see its power increase from 265 kW to 330 kW.

This is not a definitive option, but an annual subscription formula, to be renewed (or not) at the end of the term. If the subscriber is cancelled, the vehicle regains its “basic” performance.

It will be interesting to see if other manufacturers follow in the footsteps of Mercedes, knowing that BMW too already offers, in certain countries, options accessible through a subscription.
