Mercialys introduces a series of immediate measures in favor of energy sobriety

(Boursier.com) — Already strongly committed to the environment through its “4 Fair Impacts” strategy for 2030, the group Mercialys has decided to further step up its mobilization for the preservation of natural resources by instituting a series of immediate measures. These measures are intended to achieve the objective of reducing energy consumption by 10% set by the government.

Decisions with immediate effect to respond to the emergency

The current geopolitical context as well as the meteorological events of the summer of 2022 highlight, today more than ever, the limited nature of natural resources and the need to act together to ensure the best use of them.

This current crisis has led Mercialys to mobilize the expertise of all of its employees, coordinated via a task force dedicated, which has determined and rolled out concrete actions through its shopping centers:

– lowering of heating and air conditioning temperatures to 17oC in winter and 26oC in summer;

– limitation of heating at night, to a level allowing the installations to be kept frost-free;

– extinction of lighting, general and signs, 1 hour after the closing of the last shop;

– adjustment of the air flows of the ventilation installations.

The implementation of these measures will be done in close coordination with merchants and in total transparency with visitors to shopping centers. This organization has been put in place to reconcile respect for the comfort and safety of merchants, employees and visitors, and to involve all the players in this public interest approach…

A long-standing mobilization in favor of reducing energy consumption

These immediate measures are intended to adapt to the tight context of the energy market and to participate in the national effort. They supplement Mercialys’ strategic commitment since 2015, reinforced by the 2nd CSR strategic plan for the 2020-2030 period. The property teams, aware of the reality of climate change and its daily consequences, are made aware of these issues, in particular to achieve an objective of contributing to carbon neutrality involving a 40% reduction in energy consumption by the end of the decade. This approach has borne fruit since the Company, thanks to the implementation of a series of actions relating both to the operation of the centers and to investment works, is already in line with this ambition.

Examples of actions implemented:

– the installation of devices to monitor, manage and optimize the sites’ energy consumption;

– the management of center equipment in order to reduce energy consumption;

– the implementation of automatic presence detection for the activation/deactivation of various electrical installations;

– the program of relamping LEDs;

– modernization of heating and air conditioning equipment;

– thermal insulation of buildings.

A strong and unavoidable commitment that Mercialys also advocates with its peers, in particular through the chairmanship that the Company holds of the CSR Commission of the National Council of Shopping Centers (CNCC).
