Sunday February 5, 2023, the body of Maël Briand, 23, was found near Méribel. The young man had been missing for more than two weeks.

Sinister outcome in the case of the disappearance of Maël Briand. This Sunday, February 5, 2023, the body of the young 23-year-old seasonal worker, missing since January 19, was discovered in the Le Doron des Allues stream near Le Chandon, a hamlet north of the town of Méribel. . According to our colleagues from France Blue, the macabre discovery was made by the gendarmes of Moûtiers, Méribel and the nautical brigade of Aix-les-Bains, who were quick to confirm the identity of the body. The young man’s family has been alerted and is expected to arrive on Tuesday, February 7.

Originally from Rennes, in Ille-et-Vilaine, the young seasonal worker, who had been working as a cook in a Savoyard restaurant for a short time, had not given any sign of life since January 19. The alert had been given by his employers, worried about not seeing him arrive for his shift on the morning of Friday, January 20. Note that the young man had been filmed by CCTV cameras around 7:45 a.m. that day, crossing a roundabout with a snow shovel in his hand. His family had then been intrigued by the clothes he was wearing, which were very unsuitable for the very low temperatures recorded in Savoie during January.

Circumstances of death still unknown

According to the victim’s sister, Yaëlle Briand, an autopsy will be performed to determine the circumstances of the death of the young Breton. “We don’t know if it’s a drowning or a murder, said the latter to France 3. We’ll have more details when we get there.” Contacted by our colleagues from France 3, the Albertville prosecutor’s office has not yet given any information on the investigation.
